Phase two of TOSC hosted at IIT-K campus

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur hosted phase 2 of Techkriti Open School Championship (TOSC) on January 22 at its campus.
TOSC is a pre-festival event of Techkriti, the annual international technical and entrepreneurial festival organized by the students of IIT-Kanpur which has students from classes 6 to 12 competing in two phases of the competition. While phase 1 is a 60-minute online exam that tests mental ability and aptitude, phase 2 hosts external tasks to determine a winner.
The TOSC is home to three pools: Pool A (Class 6, 7 and 8), Pool B (Class 9 and 10) and Pool C (Class 11 and 12). The Pool A champions were decided after phase 1 itself while the top 100 competitors of Pools B and C were invited to phase 2 held in the offline mode.
Phase 2, which involved talks, exhibitions, and technical workshops, not only registered participants on-the-spot, their parents, too, were invited to be a part of the event. By involving parents in the event, it created an awareness among them about the common problems students face in high school.
The mental health professionals also shared insights with them on how they could play an active role in their child’s development. It was followed by a talk in which, Mahendra Dwivedi, UNICEF consultant in SCERT, expounded on topics centred on children making a smooth transition from a tender age to adolescence as well as the need for awareness on menstrual hygiene among girls.
The students also got to attend workshops conducted by IIT-Kanpur’s Science and Technology Clubs, where they attended lectures that imparted theoretical knowledge on key topics, and were also given hands-on experience on the same.The parents were introduced to Techkriti and all its initiatives by the team as the students gave their exams. Students were also taken around IIT-Kanpur’s academic area, where they were shown around the state-of-the-art lecture halls and the various well-equipped labs.
TOSC’22 proved to be a successful event and remained true to its goal of nurturing grassroots talent of the nation. Students participating in the event also shone in the various talks, workshops and competitions conducted during the day, giving a glimpse of their potential. The prizes of the TOSC were announced and distributed in the evening. The winner of the competition gets a free sponsored trip to ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). Techkriti is held annually over four days, attracting participants from every corner of the country as well as from abroad, comprising a total footfall of over 30,000 from all over India and abroad.
