Lecture series at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Manipur

Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Manipur has successfully organised a Lecture series under Ministry of External Affairs’ India@75: Videsh Niti Dinguished Lecture Series on 6th of January, 2023 at its city campus in Mantripukhri. The program was held in the auditorium of IIIT Manipur which is presided by the Director of the Institute, Prof. Krishnan Baskar.

In the event, former ambassador Shri Anil Wadhwa, IFS, Govt. of India delivered the lecture on “Recent Developments in the Indo-Pacific Region and Challenges for India” followed by a lecture on “Career Opportunities in Indian Foreign Services” by former ambassador Smt. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, IFS, Govt. of India.

Mr. Wadhwa highlighted the importance of focusing on connectivity in the Northeast region, India’s gateway to South East Asia. In this regard, the crucial role of India’s Act East policy and its influence on the economic and political situation of the region was emphasized.

India’s dual response of achieving economic resilience and preserving national security to the recent developments in the Indo-pacific region pertaining new and immerging technologies, climate change etc. was pointed out by him. He concluded his lecture propounding the need to reform the institutions which have been dominated by the developed nations in the world and India’s conviction of keeping the Indo-pacific region free, open and inclusive to all.

He also mentioned about India’s concern in the rise of China. Talking about career opportunities in IFS, Mrs. Wadhwa, in her lecture, highlighted the process of joining IFS and encouraged the students of IIIT, Manipur and Manipur University, who attended the lecture, to keep themselves informed regarding India’s foreign policies and to keep IFS as an option as many students from both technical and medical profession now opt for this prestigious profession that deals with the external affairs of India in terms of politics, economy, culture, and international law involving great responsibilities for the country.

The lecture was concluded with an engaging Q&A session where Mr. and Mrs. Wadhwa addressed the queries of the students, scholars, project staffs and professors who attended the Lecture series. Dr. Nongmeikapam Kishorjit, HoD, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, IIIT Manipur, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The Lecture series was co-ordinated by Dr. Sanjib Choudhury, HoS (Academic), IIIT Manipur who also gave the welcome address.
