Imphal, January 24 2023: Asserting that Md Rafi (31), who was arrested by Imphal East District Police as one of the suspects in the stone pelting incident at Kshetrigao Yum-khaibam Leikai on the night of January 22, is an innocent person; a sit-in was staged by the locals at Khergao Awang Sabal Leikai on Tuesday, demanding his unconditional release at the earliest.
Speaking on the sidelines, Sabal Leikai Youth Development Association president and Khergao Sabal Leikai Masjid Committee secretary Ajijur Rahman contended that Md Raft is an innocent civilian, who is working hard to make ends meet by investing at some of the local shops and making daily collections, in addition to organising 'marup'.
His character is known by the whole locality and the locality itself is far from the incident site, Kshetrigao Yumkhaibam Leikai.
Thus, he demanded that Raft be released without any condition at the earliest, in the interest of his young children.
Ajijur then said that the Association extends full support to the state police's anti-drug drives and arrests of drug dealers as part of the 'War on Drugs' campaign.
