Mother’s wait to hug son extended by his denial in Surat

SURAT: It was six long years of pent up anxiety that overflowed when Sufiya Mansuri, a mother who finally met her lost and found son, Anees (name changed). However, when the time finally came for the family to reunite, the six-year-old boy was unable to recognize his mother and Mansuri’s world crashed.
But despite the minor refused his mother’s overtures to hug him, Mansuri’s maternal instincts stayed firm on faith. “I did not lose hope and will do whatever it takes to get back my son,” the overwhelmed mother asserted.
Anees was kidnapped from a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kathore village near the city, six hours after his birth. Since then, Mansuri and her husband Mohammad Ali had lost all hopes of reuniting with their child, until fate surprised them and their son was found on Monday.
“I could not believe it at first. I tried to hug him in the police station, but he refused to come close,” Sufiya told TOI. The boy did not recognize her since he saw her for the first time since he grew up.
“I could feed my infant only twice after his birth before he was kidnapped. I hope to live the rest of my life with my son now,” Mansuri added.
The couple are parents to two daughters and in January 2017, Sufiya gave birth to a son. “I was happy for the birth of a son, but the happiness did not last for long. We developed disputes within the family due to the kidnapping, but I am thankful to the police,” said Mohammad Ali.
The couple is likely to get custody of the child after DNA profiling of the child. “After being rescued the child has been sent to a children’s home and his DNA profiling and matching with parents has been ordered by court. If the report matches with the parents his custody will be given as per court order,” said a police officer.
Kamrej police in Surat district, traced the boy in Karjan and arrested Kamlesh Oad, an emergency medical technician (EMT) in 108 ambulance service and his wife Nayna. Due to medical issues Nayna remained childless after which Oad, who was EMT in Kim in 2017, kidnapped the boy from the CHC.
