Kolkata man protests molest bid on daughter, killed

HOWRAH: A man in Howrah died on Monday after being beaten up on Sunday night as he protested against molestation attempts on his daughter. The police on Tuesday arrested a youth in this connection.
A Class-X student, a resident of Howrah's Shyampur PS area, was returning home on her cycle after her coaching class on Sunday around 9pm. As she reached Tinmore, Bhagar area some youths standing there started harassing her. The girl ignored them. The youths ran towards her cycle, stopped her and tried to molest her.
The frightened girl, left her cycle and started running towards her home, shouting for help. Her father, who was nearby, realised she was being chased by two youths - Kilton Bag and Titon Bag. As he tried to stop them, they allegedly started beating him up. He fell on the ground and the two started kicking him. One of them allegedly throttled him and he fell unconscious.
The duo fled as the girl shouted. The man was taken to the local rural hospital and then to Uluberia Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Medical College and Hospital.He died on Monday night.
"We have registered a case on charges of molestation, murder and under POCSO Act. Kilton Bag was arrested on Tuesday," said Swati Bhangalia, SP, Howrah (rural).
