President’s medal for DGP Singh, SP Borkar
Panaji: The President’s police medals for distinguished service, on the occasion of Republic Day 2023, have been declared for Goa DGP Jaspal Singh and superintendent of police serving at the state Raj Bhavan, Vishram Borkar.
They are among 93 across the country for whom the President’s police medal for distinguished service has been declared. The honour is awarded for a special distinguished record in police service.
The Goa DGP is an IPS officer of the 1996 batch of the AGMUT cadre. He has mostly handled assignments related to crime and law and order. He also has a commendable record of solving heinous cases.
He had handled communally sensitive districts in Delhi and, in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, was rewarded for his work during the tsunami. He was also recognised for his work with the IB. tnn
Singh was instrumental in ensuring that the agitating farmers in Delhi did not disturb the Republic Day celebrations. Under his leadership, Goa police helped more than 8,000 foreigners make a safe return from Goa to their country during the Covid pandemic. The police personnel deaths were also minimal in Goa during the pandemic, under his supervision.
Borkar has also served long years with Goa police and was among ten senior officers promoted last year to the post of SP.
