KALYAN: The owner of a jeans washing unit has been booked for power theft of Rs 25.86 lakh at Titwala in Thane district.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) had launched a special drive to punish those involved in power theft.
The MSEDCL filed an FIR at Murbad police station against Brijmohan Prajapati, owner of the jeans Washing Company, and land owner Vikas Baban Dalvi.
The MSEDCL official said the team on January 17 found that the cable coming to the meter was cut and tapped on the ceiling.
It was found that the electricity theft was going on with the help of this tapped cable bypassing the meter.
Accordingly, a notice was issued regarding the payment of power theft.
However, due to non-payment of the amount within the stipulated time, a case has been registered against the accused.
