Chandigarh: The clamour against sexual harassment accused Haryana minister of state (MoS) Sandeep Singh continued to grow louder on Monday, as the Chandigarh Police SIT’s probe into the allegations against him was yet to make any significant progress.
After an ultimatum by khap panchayats, Mahila Congress members and leaders on Monday made a foiled attempt to reach out to Sandeep’s Chandigarh residence. Bhim Awardee volleyball player and AIDWA leader Jagmati Sangwan asked the Indian Olympic Association and Union ministry of
sports to strip the minister off all posts in sports associations he is holding.
Led by Sudha Bhardwaj, the state president of Haryana unit of Mahila Congress, party workers started the procession from Panchkula and were intercepted on the Chandigarh border. Later, the workers dispersed after raising slogans.
Those who accompanied Bhardwaj included Naraingarh MLA Shelly Chaudhary, former Panchkula mayor Upinder Ahluwalia, Mahila Congress vice-president Vimpla Saroha and other district- and state-level leaders.
“The SIT’s attitude clearly shows how it is being used as a tool by the BJP-ruled Centre and Haryana government to protect the accused. We will not give up,” she said.
