Guwahati: The Congress high command has set up a new political affairs committee for Assam to chalk out major strategies ahead of the 2024
Lok Sabha polls.
Besides Assam, the Congress on Sunday also set up its political affairs committees for Madhya Pradesh. The grand old party also appointed new office-bearers to various party units in the two states which has been its bastions once. Without sidelining any prominent leaders from various factions of the state Congress, the committee will be spearheaded by AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh and PCC president Bhupen Borah.
“The political affairs committee will guide the PCC president in taking some of the most crucial decisions ahead of the 2024 election. In policy matters, the committee’s say will be of paramount importance so far a deciding the course of action for Assam Congress is concerned,” said Borah.
While leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia features at the top of the list, all three Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha — Gaurav Gogoi, Pradyut Bordoloi and Abdul Khaleque — has been included in the 19-member committee that was approved by AICC president
Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday. Retired IAS officer MGVK Bhanu, who joined Congress ahead of the last general election, got a berth in the list.
