AHMEDABAD: A surveillance squad at Sabarmati Central Jail on Sunday night found a mobile phone with an undertrial woman prisoner at Barrack No. 9. The phone was allegedly used by four women prisoners inside the jail.
According to the FIR filed with Ranip police, a jailer named Mahesh Dave and other jail staff conducted surprise checks at Barrack No. 9 and found a keypad phone with the undertrial prisoner, Dimple Chaudhary. Dave stated in the FIR that Chaudhary tried to throw the phone - which had a sim card in it - into the toilet, but two women staffers prevented this and seized the phone.
She told jail staffers that the phone belonged to another undertrial prisoner, Rubina Shaikh, and was also used by two other prisoners, Champa Vankar and Tamanna Gupta. Dave seized the phone and filed a complaint for violation of the notification prohibiting the use of mobile phones inside the jail, abetment, and charges under the Prisoners Act.
