Large contingent of security personnel deployed at MCD House for mayoral poll

Delhi's authorities have stepped up security inside the national capital's Municipal House ahead of the mayoral polls set for today.

A large force of personnel, including female security personnel and marshals have been deployed at the House and on the premises of the Civic Centre. Reports say today's deployment surpasses the numbers present on January 6, during the first meeting at the Municipal House.

The maiden meeting at the start of January was adjourned without electing representatives to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions after councillors of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested a decision by the presiding officer.

Arvind Kejriwal's party was miffed by the presiding officer's decision to administer oath to the 10 aldermen first.

Proceeding in the House are set to begin at 11 am today.

Following the high-stakes MCD election that concluded recently, Delhi is set to get its first Mayor after a decade long hiatus.

"Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed outside the House as part of security measures," one official told PTI.
