‘Rash driving causes most accidents’
Hubballi: Most accidents are caused by rash driving, and they can be avoided with cautious driving, said police commissioner Raman Gupta.
He spoke after inaugurating a bike and car rally by the district administration, Rotary Club Hubballi Parivar, 99 Cannons Motorcycle Club, Inner Wheel Club and Hubballi Dharwad Motor Driving School Association, to mark National Road Safety Week here on Monday.
Gupta said awareness on road rules is less among Indian drivers. “Millions of people in the country are losing their lives in road accidents. Sometimes innocents are losing lives due to some others’ carelessness. It is important to create awareness about traffic rules among the youth. Social organisations should join hands with police for the campaign,” he said.
Gopal Byakod, deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) said it is mandatory to wear a helmet while riding a two-wheeler. “Over 1 lakh people die every year in the country for neglecting traffic rules. Seat belts must be worn while driving. Hasty travel leads to accidents,” he added.
