Mysuru: MLA L Nagendra on Monday said that Kannada is one among the 30 languages, which are most influential in the world.
He was addressing the audience at a 20-day training programme, ‘Moola Samskruti-Kannada Samskruti’ organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture, at Kalamandira, here in the city.
Nagendra said there are a total of 9,000 languages in the world, out of which 4,500 languages are extinct. Kannada is one among the 30 languages that are the most influential languages in the world. Kannada is a language with an ancient culture, he added.
The camp was organised to educate the next generation about languages and culture, and we should not forget the heritage history of our country, he said.
Nagendra also said that the forest dwellers refuse to relocate to urban areas owing to their culture and tradition. Referring to Droupadi Murmu, he said a Scheduled Tribe woman has been elected as the President of India and it is our culture and an example for social justice, he said.
Mayor Shivakumar, additional deputy commissioner R Lokanath and others were present.
