HYDERABAD: A student from Hyderabad - who had landed in the US just 10 days ago - was shot at in a robbery attempt in
Chicago on Sunday. Another Telugu student, Devansh (23) from Vijayawada, who was with him was also injured.
The student from the city, K Sai Charan, had gone to the US on January 11 to pursue MS from Governors State University in Chicago. He is said to be out of danger, according to his parents.
"I understand there was an incident in which my son was injured. We are in a state of shock," Sai Charan's father Srinivas Rao told media at his residence at BHEL LIG colony, Ramachandrapuram.
"We have been informed by my son's friends that he is safe," Srinivas said, adding that the incident took place on January 22 evening. Over the weekend, Chicago police department reported that 30 people were shot at and seven had died.
It gave details of various incidents. In description matching Telugu students, police said, "In 8400 block of S Holland, on Jan 22, 2023, at 6:53pm two male victims, 22 and 23, were near a parking lot when they were approached by dark vehicle. Two offenders exited vehicle, presented handguns, demanded victim's property. Victims complied, offenders fired shots." "There are no offenders in custody."
