LUCKNOW: At least three people were killed while several others are feared trapped after a five-storey residential building collapsed on Wazir Hasanganj Road in Lucknow on Tuesday evening.
The building collapse is being attributed to the earthquake that occurred in the city on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior police officers along with deputy CM Brajesh Pathak and cabinet minister AK Sharma reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
"The building collapsed suddenly. Three bodies have been recovered. NDRF and fire brigade personnel are present at the spot. Rescue operation is under way," the deputy chief minister said.

"Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the district magistrate and senior police officers, SDRF, and NDRF teams to conduct rescue operations at the spot. Many hospitals have also been instructed to remain alert," the chief minister office said in a statement.
“So far, five people have been rescued. They were in shock & sent to the hospital. Condition points to a natural disaster. Eight families were inside when the building collapsed. According to our estimate, 30-35 people should be (trapped). CM is monitoring the situation. Rescue operations are under way,” the DGP said.
"Today an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 Richter was felt in Lucknow. The building that collapsed was located in the riverine belt. Eight teams of SDRF and four teams of NDRF are present at the site," the DGP added.
The incident site was chaotic, with a large crowd of people from nearby apartments and many police officers unsure of how many people were trapped under the rubble. There was confusion as emergency responders worked to clear the debris and rescue those who were buried.
According to locals, 15 families were residing in the building, which is estimated to be around 10-12 years old.
