Margao: In what is seen as an unusual move, the South Goa collector Jyoti Kumari issued an order last week to the effect that Rs 1,000 be collected from the staff members and officers of the district collectorate.
“An event is being organised by the collectorate of South Goa on January 26 at the Matanhy Saldanha administrative complex ground followed by the Republic Day function. It has been decided to contribute Rs 1,000 each by the permanent staff and officers for making this a grand success,” read the order issued on January 19.
Two staff members of the collectorate were further directed to collect the amount from all the staff and officers by January 20 “so that the event can be well organised”.
Taking exception to the order, GFP on Tuesday demanded that the order be immediately revoked. “Or else it is certain that the BJP government is bankrupt and now requires funds to be collected from employees to celebrate the Republic Day,” said party spokesperson Durgadas Kamat.
