Centre mixing religion with edu policy: Ex-Bengal min
Ranchi: Former West Bengal home minister Shiv Kumar Banerjee on Monday claimed that the Union government was giving religious colour to the education system of the country through the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
Speaking at a seminar on NEP here, Banerjee said the government has introduced Vedic mathematics in NEP, which is unnecessary.
He reasoned that mathematics has advanced to a very high level at present and stressed that education should be universal and free of religions.
Banerjee said the government is also intent on rewriting history by renaming important places in the country. “There is much emphasis on Hinduism. Such policies would segregate the Indian population on communal lines,” he claimed.
The former Bengal minister also claimed that the NEP would not open up employment opportunities for the youths and urged them should launch a widespread movement against its implementation. “The youths should hold frequent seminars and discussions over the NEP and build a public opinion for its withdrawal,” he added.
In his speech, the national general secretary of the All India Youth Federation, R Trimilai, said the BJP-led government came to power promising jobs to the youths but now “we are facing acute shortage of employment opportunities”.
