IND vs NZ, 3rd ODI Highlights: India Beat New Zealand by 90 Runs to Affect 3-0 Whitewash

India defeated New Zealand by 90 runs to not only just win the ODI series but also affect a 3-0 sweep over the Kiwis. It’s now the 2nd consecutive series sweep by the Men in Blue at home. After defeating Sri Lanka 3-0, a couple of weeks ag, India have repeated the results against the Black Caps, adding it to their build-up for the mega event later this year, the 2023 ICC World Cup.

It rained boundaries and sixes at Indore’s Holkar stadium. The India innings saw a couple of centuries – one from Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who found triple figures after three years, and another one from his partner Shubman Gill who scored the 4th ODI ton. With this feat, he equalled Babar Azam’s record of the most number of runs in a bilateral series – 360. After a 212-run opening stand, the Indian innings fumbled a bit in between as the visitors managed to pick wickets. But again, it was Hardik Pandya who chipped in with a 36-ball fifty to power India to 385 for 9 in 50 overs.

New Zealand had an early jolt as Pandya removed Finn Allen off the very second ball of the chase. But then, Devin Conway and Henry Nicholls stitched a 106-run stand for the 2nd wicket. Once the latter departed, the Kiwis started to lose wickets at regular intervals. However, Conway kept the fight on and scored 138 off just 100 balls.

As the New Zealand opener lost his wicket to Umran Malik, the victory seemed closer for India. Kuldeep and Shardul picked up 3 wickets each while Chahal bagged a couple.

India are one wicket away from victory but Micthell Santner is throwing his bat away at almost every delivery and getting runs as well. He smashes Kuldeep for a maximum to start the 41st over and gets a boundary as well. 15 runs from it, an expensive one from Kuldeep.

NZ: 295/9 after 41 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal traps Jacob Duffy in front, India one wicket away from victory. Chahal bowls a slider at the stumps, Jacob Duffy gets forward to defend but plays down the wrong line. The ball strikes him on the front pad and the umpire raises the finger. Duffy sends it upstairs but the UltraEdge shows no bat and it is umpire’s call on Ball Tracking.

NZ: 279/8 after 38.5 overs

Rohit Sharma pulls off a one-handed stunner to dismiss Lockie Ferguson; Kuldeep Yadav strikes as India now need only 2 wickets to win the game and the series. Short and turning in on middle and leg, Ferguson stays in his crease and looks to work it on the leg side but closes the bat face early. Ends up getting a leading edge that flies towards Rohit Sharma at mid-wicket.

NZ: 279/8 after 38.5 overs

Kuldeep Yadav sees the batter advance and fires this one full and quicker down the leg side. Michael Bracewell tries to sweep this one while moving and fails to get any bat on it. Ishan Kishan behind the wicket collects it cleanly to his right and whips the bails off in a flash. The leg umpire takes it upstairs and the replays show that Michael Bracewell is well out of his crease.

NZ: 268/6 after 36.2 overs

India may have got rid of Devon Conway, but the Bracewell challenge is yet to be completed successfully. Umran Malik gets hammered for a couple of boundaries as the visitors are trying out every bit of what they have in the store.

IND: 246/6 after 34 overs.

Santner brings out the short arm jab pull and gets a SIX! Short ball from Pandya, Santner collects a maximum towards the mid-wicket fence.

NZ: 237/6 after 32.4 overs

Umran Malik has brought Team India back into the game by ending Devon Conway’s fabulous innings. That was the wicket the hosts were looking for. Skiddy delivery, Conway looks to flick but holes it out tp Rohit Sharma at mid-wicket.

NZ: 230/6 after 31.4 overs

Devon Conway ain’t stopping today. He goes after Washington Sundar and smashes six over mid-wicket and then follows it with a boundary over extra cover.

NZ: 212/5 after 29 overs.

Shardul Thakur with another wicket! He is turning the game here. Cross-seam delivery and Glenn Phillips who tries to pull it gets a top edge. The ball goes high in the air towards the off side and Kohli settles under it to take an easy catch.

NZ: 200/5 after 27.4 overs

The wickets are falling but Devon Conway is doing his things without a break. If Shardul found 2 in 2, Conway gives him back with consecutive boundaries. He is batting on 116.

NZ: 193/4 after 26 overs.

2 in 2 for Shardul. The man with a golden arm does the trick again. Bowls a knuckle ball full toss, dipping late and catches the toe end of Latham’s bat as the New Zealand captain looks to drive straight. The ball flies low to the left of mid-off and Hardik catches it with a forward slide.

NZ: 184/4 after 25.2 overs

Short ball from Thakur, Daryl Mitchell looked for the pull but gets a feather edge of his batting gloves. The umpire doesn’t give it and the Indians take a review. The replay shows spikes on the ultraedge as the ball goes past the gloves. The decision goes in favour of India and Mitchell walks back dissatisfied.

NZ: 184/3 after 25.1 overs

Chahal to Conway – 6, 6! The opening batter brings up his century in style. He entered Chahal’s over on 88 and notched up the triple figures with back-to-back sixes. This particular man is giving headaches to the hosts.

IND: 172/2 after 23.2 overs

This will give Mitchell some confidence! Short and turning away, outside off. Mitchell goes back and pulls it wide of long on for a boundary.

Conway was just hit on his helmet grill but now he seems to be in discomfort. He could be seen limping while running between the wickets. 150-up for New Zealand.

NZ: 151/2 after 22 overs

Kuldeep bowls this one full and on middle and leg, Devon Conway gets down on one knee and sweeps this one past short fine leg for a boundary.

NZ: 129/2 after 18.1 overs

Chahal bowls it short and quicker on leg, Devon Conway gets inside to reverse sweep but misses. Ishan Kishan fails to collect it cleanly and concedes a single.

NZ: 121/2 after 17.2 overs.

A floater from Yuzvendra Chahal and Conway wanted to hammer it as he dances down. But he fails to connect as he gets beaten by the turn. Kishan behind the wicket misses as well and Conway gets a reprieve. The batters sneak in a bye as the ball rolls off the keeper’s gloves to square leg.

NZ: 113/2 after 16 overs

Kuldeep traps Henry Nicholls in front to break the century partnership. Kuldeep bowls a googly, Henry goes back in his crease to work this one on the leg side. Ends up playing down the wrong line and gets trapped right in front of the stumps. India go up in appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Henry Nicholls sends it upstairs after deliberation with Devon Conway. The UltraEdge shows no bat and it is three reds on BallTracking.
