Michigan state park, recreation area campground closures in 2023

Several Michigan state park and recreation area campgrounds will be closed for portions of the 2023 camping season. Some popular Michigan locations are on the list this year. Here's a rundown of planned closures, so you're not surprised when trying to book.
Aloha State Park
Due to ongoing issues with groundwater, sites 15, 18, 19, 22 and 54 are closed until further notice at Aloha State Park in Cheboygan.
Cheboygan State Park
The Cheboygan State Park modern campground, not including the rustic cabins or modern lodge, is closed through May 2023 for an enhancement project to upgrade electric and water distribution systems.
Fort Wilkins Historic State Park
The west campground at Ford Wilkins Historic State Park in Copper Harbor will be temporarily closed from early to mid-May for enhancement work.

Harrisville State Park
Due to receding water levels on Lake Huron, sites 97, 99, 101 and 102 will remain closed.
Hoffmaster State Park
Hoffmaster State Park's campground in Norton Shores will close July 7 through the remainder of the 2023 season to due a park enhancement project.
The project will:
- Replace water and sewer lines
- Renovate and replace day-use toilet facilities
- Renovate the Gillette Visitor Center
- Reconstruct park and campground roads
Interlochen State Park
The South Campground at Interlochen State Park will be temporarily closed for improvements. An enhancement project to replace the electrical system is scheduled to be completed between Memorial Day and July 1. A reopening date had not yet been announced.

Ludington State Park
The Beechwood Campground at Ludington State Park is closed through at least June 30 for construction. Due to a contractor delay for a project to replace two bathroom buildings and part of the electrical system, camping reservations won't be open until at least June 30.
McLain State Park
The campground at McLain State Park in Hancock will be closed through at least May for a project that will replace the water, sewer and electrical system.
Mitchell State Park
Mitchell State Park's campground in Cadillac will be closed through June to replace the bathroom building and campground roads. The tentative reopening date is July 1.
North Higgins Lake State Park
The East Campground at North Higgins Lake State Park will close for a portion of spring and summer to complete a new toilet and shower building.
Pontiac Lake Recreation Area
The modern campground at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in Waterford Township is closed through at least July 9 to upgrade the electrical system.
Straits State Park
The upper campground at Straits State Park in St. Ignace will be closed through at least late June to replace the bathroom and shower buildings.
Wilderness State Park
The East Lakeshore Campground at Wilderness State Park in Carp Lake is closed through June 9 for a redevelopment project.
