Vadodara: A three-year-old boy died and his mother suffered severe injuries following a massive blast in their house in Gotri area on Saturday evening.
Fire officials said that leakage in the piped natural gas (PNG) line caused the blast that also damaged major portion of the house in Chandramauleshwar Society. According to the fire brigade officials, Nayana Barot had gone out with her son Devang for some time.
“When she returned, some neighbours warned her of gas leakage in her house and that she should be careful. Barot opened the door and pushed some switches in the room. What followed was a deafening blast,” said Ganpat Jhalaiya, fire officer from Vadi fire station.
“We reached the spot within minutes. The fire was doused but the interior of the house was damaged. When Barot pushed the switch, it must have caused a spark causing the blast in the room filled with PNG,” Jhalaiya told TOI. Both were rushed to the hospital with severe burn injuries.
Devang succumbed to his burns during treatment while his mother was still under observation. Fire officials said that there was an LPG cylinder too in the house.
But the blast didn’t damage it else it could have led to a bigger tragedy, they added.
