LUDHIANA: Khanna police on Monday arrested four of a family including a woman, for allegedly beating up a police officer after he went to their house to conduct raid in a theft case.
The accused were identified as Karam Singh of Mandyala village, his sons Hardeep Singh and Daljit Singh Babbu and his daughter Sukhwinder Kaur.
Police officials said that Balbir Singh of the village had given complaint to the police that he had seen the accused persons stealing the Angle (Made of Aluminium) of the Electricity tower line going to an industry which is closed now due to debt. They added that after receiving the complaint, the ASI Jagdeep Singh, who is incharge Court police post, had gone to the house of the accused persons when he was allegedly attacked by them.
Cops said that the accused persons allegedly tore away the uniform of the police officer and while man-handling him his turban also went off. They added that after the incident, police official took the “injured” police officer to Sub Divisional Hospital in Khanna where his medical examination was done by the doctor.
Police officials said that after the incident, the police officer informed his senior officer.
On being informed, senior police officers reached the spot and probe was started into the matter.
DSP Khanna William Jeji said that case has registered against the accused persons under sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 506 (criminal intimidation)of IPC at Sadar Khanna police station. He added that the accused person have been arrested.
