Baroda Cricket Association to go to polls on February 26
“The polls were delayed for several reasons. Candidates can file their nomination on February 16 and February 17,” said Sheetal Mehta, vice-president, BCA.
VADODARA: The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) will go to polls on February 26. The decision to hold the polls that have already been delayed by nearly four months was taken in the association’s apex council members’ meeting on Saturday. BCA officials said that notice for the election will be issued on February 9.
“The polls were delayed for several reasons. Candidates can file their nomination on February 16 and February 17,” said Sheetal Mehta, vice-president, BCA.
On February 18, the nomination forms will be scrutinized and candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination by February 20. Poll results will be declared on February 27.
The BCA currently has two factions – the Revival Group led by Pranav Amin and the Royal Group of royal scion Samarjitsinh Gaekwad. Both the groups have begun preparations for the polls but talks are also on between them to contest the election together.
“Yes, there were informal discussions to contest jointly but it seems difficult. It is possible that both groups may not agree on some candidates or the posts to be shared,” said a senior BCA official. In the polls held in September 2019, Pranav Amin had won the president’s post and Revival Group also bagged a majority in the apex council.
One of the key points of the campaign in this election would be the international cricket stadium that is under construction at Kotambi. The ruling group is expected to showcase it as its one of the major achievements.
