KEONJHAR: Health authorities in Keonjhar district have initiated an inquiry into the alleged delay of about 10 hours in conducting the medical examination of a gang-rape survivor. The 37-year-old woman was taken to one hospital on Friday and moved to another and finally to the first one again, before her medical examination began, police said.
Chief district medical officer Dr K C Prusty said, "I have already initiated an inquiry. On humanitarian grounds, a doctor should conduct the medical examination without inquiry about the place of incident or jurisdiction."
Prusty said that when the police took her to Anandpur sub-divisional hospital, the doctor should have started medical examination. "The reason for sending her to another hospital will be inquired. We will also find out why the second hospital sent her back to Anandpur," he said. Sub-divisional police officer Anil Beuria said, "One suspected accused has been detained."TNN
