Water meters being installed in city wards
Ranchi: Water meters are currently being installed in all wards of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to ensure that people get regular and constant supply under the Centre’s ‘Har Ghar Jal’ scheme.
The move is undertaken by the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO) working in tandem with the RMC while providing water connections. JUIDCO officials said around 1.6 lakh water connections will be made to homes of various wards in the first phase, and around 34,000 connections have already been made to residents of different areas.
“According to the Har Ghar Jal initiative, the process of water connection and installation of water metres is currently underway. The goal is to provide each residence with a water connection and a water meter. In the first phase, about 1.6 lakh water connections of a total of 2.5 lakh will be made available to all areas. The rest will receive water connections in the second phase. "
A survey is now being conducted to find out the wards that require water connections and meters. RMC deputy mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargiya said, “The RMC, in coordination with JUIDCO, is conducting a survey to determine which regions require basic and potable water infrastructure. Based on the survey results, the installation of water connections will be completed by 2024. It is expected that by next year, all RMC ward residences will have adequate water connections.”
Vinod Kumar Singh, the ward councillor of Vidya Nagar, Harmu Road, said, “Pipeline installation is underway in locations where basic water supply facilities are lacking. Under the Har Ghar Jal scheme, water connections are being provided to several regions. We are determining the requirement after which the pipeline installation will commence.”
