DHARWAD: Dharwad, the education hub of North Karnataka , is now set to add another feather to its cap as the Centre has given its nod to set up an off-campus facility of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) here.
Union parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi said the facility will come up on the Karnatak University campus near its library.
Union home minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone on January 28.
He said that based on a proposal from the state, the Union home ministry gave its approval for setting up the NFSU in Dharwad. Works will start once the detailed project report is submitted, he added.
Such a facility is coming up for the first time in southern India. It will offer international standard technical facilities for investigation agencies and speed up the investigation process in Karnataka and neighbouring states. It can also prevent delay in DNA testing and cybercrime investigations.
This will also help students in the region engaged in the study of criminology, life science, genetics, biotechnology, and other subjects, Joshi said.
