The Port Arthur Health Department wants Southeast Texans to “join the revolution” that's underway through its Nurse Family Partnership.

The program partners first-time mothers and their babies with a local nurse who provides support and advice that helps transform the lives and well-being of families throughout the region.

Expecting mothers are paired with their nurse during their pregnancy, getting information about nutrition and other practices for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

The support continues for both mom and baby after birth, covering topics including breast feeding, safe sleep techniques, child development and more.

It also aids in job training referrals, continuing education and skills needed to succeed in life while caring for baby.

The program is free for first-time mothers who meet income requirements. Fathers, family and friends are welcome to participate.

The organization’s advisory committee will hold a meeting Thursday at 700 North St. in Beaumont from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to share stories of its work, along with finding new local leaders and others interested in being part of the Nurse Family Partnership’s mission.
