JD(S) Sindagi candidate Patil dies

Vijayapura: JD(S) candidate from Sindagi, Shivanand Patil Somajal, died on Friday night after suffering a heart attack.
Patil is said to have complained of uneasiness at a relative’s house, where he had gone after attending the party’s Pancharathna Yatra, led by former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in Vijayapura district. He was rushed to a hospital, where he breathed his last. The yatra was cancelled on Saturday. The 54-year-old functionary is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
Patil served in the army for 16 years before he took voluntary retirement and started his own business in Hubballi-Dharwad.
He joined the BJP and then JD(S) to contest from Sindagi assembly seat. His name had figured in the party’s first list of candidates announced in December last year. TNN
