Coimbatore: Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) department officials have retrieved 24 acres of encroached temple land, worth several crores, in the district.
The department received a complaint about the land, belonging to Lord Venkatesaperumal Temple, also called Kongu Tirupathy, at Parameswaranpalayam near Thondamuthur, encroached by some people. The encroaches had started cultivating in the land, an official said.
A team led by HR&CE assistant commissioner
Karunanidhi examined the complaint and found that it was true.
Subsequently, a team of officials, accompanied by police personnel, visited the place on Friday and retrieved it. They installed a board stating that the land belonged to the temple.
Police have warned the villagers not to encroach it again.
