Bokaro: The Bokaro steel township is in complete disarry with thieves stealing at will and miscreants running amok.
Beginning with theft of air-conditioners from the building of the SP’s office, the roadside grilles close to BSL headquarters, miscreants targeted none other than traffic police station on Wednesday night and vandalised the office with policemen looking on as mute spectators. When SDO went out on surprise inspection on Thursday, he found booze parties going on openly on the roadside near the bus stand. Thefts are a major worry as on Tuesday, thieves stole a huge display made of iron alphabets written “Happy Street” from the roadside at Patharkatta Chowk.
Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has a security department to keep watch on company property which is failing to curb the rising crime graph. Recently, the officers’ association of BSL raised its concern on rising thefts and pointed finger at both BSL security and police for their failure.
BSOA president AK Singh said in spite of a big administrative system, the grilles installed at the dividers were being stolen. Thieves are stealing grilles wherever they are installed. “It is unfortunate that the administration and security personnel of BSL have completely failed to stop the theft,” he added.
Chief of communication, BSL, Manikant Dhan, said, “We are looking into the matter.”
On Thursday, when sub-divisional officer (SDO), Chas, Dilip Singh Shekhwat, made a surprise inspection along with Chas circle officer Dilip Kumar, they were surprised to see people drinking in the open on the roadside. On seeing the officials, they miscreants ran away. Besides the SDO also found that vendors have encroached a major portion of the government bus stand.
The SDO said, “We saw people are consuming liquor openly in broad daylight in government bus stand. It shows that there is a need to enforce the law properly here. I have directed DSP City and police station concerned to conduct patrolling frequently at the bus stand area. I will also visit again to check.”
On Wednesday midnight, the traffic police station at the city’s busiest roundabout Birsa Chowk was ransacked. Apart from the name plate outside, the miscreants broke the bulb, curtain, switchboard and also overturned the barricade kept there.
On Thursday, police also lodged an FIR at Petarwar police station in connection to theft of an ATM of a bank situated in the market area.
