Odisha cabinet OKs OBC Act amendment to include more castes
BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha cabinet on Saturday gave its nod to amend laws governing backward classes to include newer communities in the list of backward class citizens, reports Ashok Pradhan.
The Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes (OSCBC) Act, 1993 will be amended so that the government can include any caste in the central list of OBCs under the state list of socially and educationally backward classes (SEBCs), additional chief secretary and development commissioner Pradeep Jena said.
As per the proposed amendment, a new sub section 3 will be added to the Act, which empowers the state to include any caste finding place in OBC list in the state’s list.
Odisha gives 11. 25% reservation to SEBCs in various government jobs while the Centre gives 27% reservation to OBCs in jobs and education.
