Four more held in Kolhapur in sex determination racket

KOLHAPUR: Kolhapur police arrested four people, including a quack, in connection with the illegal sex determination racket busted a few days ago.
The police on Thursday arrested Baburao Dattu Patil, 52, and Sagar Shivaji Bachate, 39, both from Kagal taluka, who would allegedly bring patients for sex determination. On Friday morning, Digambar Maruti Killedar, 43, who claimed to be a doctor, and Sheela Shamrao Mane, 40, working as a nurse for Killedar, were arrested.
Inspector Sanjay More of Bhudargad police station said, “The women carrying a female fetus were sent to Killedar. He used to carry out illegal abortion. Killedar was arrested earlier for same reasons by Karvir police station in 2021 and was on bail for last eight months.”
More said the money trail among these suspects confirmed their link. “Their call records show that they know each other,” said More.
Meanwhile, Kolhapur SP Shailesh Balkawade has asked all police station in-charges to take stringent steps to stop the illegal abortions, female foeticides.
Bhudargad police earlier arrested Vijay Lakshman Kolaskar, who was indulging in sex determining using a sonography machine he had bought from a doctor, who passed away a few years ago. He is in police custody for ten days.
