Section 144 imposed in Ramgarh ahead of bypoll
Ramgarh: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPc have been imposed in Ramgarh sub-division in the wake of the Ramgarh assembly bypoll scheduled to be held on February 27, subdivisional officer (SDO) Md Javed Hussain said on Friday.
Hussain said Section 144 was imposed to a conduct free, fearless and impartial bypoll. He also said with the prohibitory order in place, the assembly of more than five persons, processions, rallies, demonstrations, dharnas, and keeping arms and other sharp weapons that hurt anyone in public, are banned.
The SDO, however, said political parties should take prior permission to hold their election-related activities where the congregation of people would take place.
Meanwhile, the district administration held a meeting with recognised national and regional political parties on Thursday to ensure that they comply with the model code of conduct that came into force after the bypoll schedule was announced by the Election Commission on January 18.
While taking part in the meeting, deputy development commissioner Nagendra Kumar Sinha, Ramgarh SP Piyush Pandey and Ramgarh SDO Md Javed Hussain briefed the representatives of political parties about the model code of conduct and requested them to cooperate with the authorities.
