Jamshedpur: A jawan of the 203 Battalion of CoBRA received splinter injuries in an IED blast, the third such explosion in the past 10 days, in the jungles under the Tonto police station area in West Singhbhum district on Friday.
West Singhbhum SP Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed the incident and said the injured jawan has been airlifted to Ranchi for his treatment at the Medica hospital. The incident took place in Tumbahaka village in the Saranda forest area, he said.
Shekhar further said extensive search operations in different parts of the Tonto police station limits are going on in the wake of intelligence reports on the movement of the extremists. He added that the IEDs are planted by the Maoists to target the security forces. Notably, 10 CoBRA jawans were injured in three separate IED explosions that occurred around the area in Tonto, so far.
Earlier, six CoBRA jawans were hurt in the explosion which occurred on January 11 and three more jawans of the force were injured in the blast that occurred on January 12.
Meanwhile, the police have heightened the security in the district in the wake of the Jharkhand bandh called on January 22 by the CPI (Maoist).
