Coimbatore: Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P K Sekar Babu on Friday said the consecration of Perur Patteeswarar temple would be held in a grand manner soon.
He said the temple renovation and work on additional facilities for devotees would be carried out at a cost of 3.5 crore before the consecration. The minister was addressing the media after inspecting preparations for Mahashivratri celebrations at Perur temple.
He said the state government had decided to celebrate Mahashivratri in five temples, after the success of celebrations at Kapaleeswarar temple in Chennai last year. Accordingly, preparations are on for grand celebrations at the Perur temple in Coimbatore, Big Temple in Thanjavur and Arunachaleswarar temple in Thiruvannamalai, he said.
The minister said a three-acre area was being developed for devotees to congregate for Mahashivratri at Perur. Parking facilities and other basic amenities would be provided for the devotees who participate in the celebrations, he said.
Earlier in the day, he inspected preparatory works for the consecration of Dhandayuthapani temple in Palani. The minister said that all the arrangements were being made for a large number of devotees to participate in the event on January 27. He said the consecrations were done in a record number of 407 temples across the state ever since the DMK formed the government. “Financial allocation has been raised from 1 lakh to 2 lakh for more than 2,000 temples. Those who are unable to digest the DMK government’s efforts to protect the temples are attempting to paint a false picture that the government is ignoring temples.” tnn
