GURUGRAM: Former Haryana minister Captain Ajay Yadav, who is also the national chairman of Congress’ OBC wing, on Friday demanded a CBI probe into wrestlers’ allegations of sexual harassment against Wresting Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Saran Singh.
At a media briefing in Gurgaon, Yadav said the protesting wrestlers must get
justice and asked the government to disband WFI and order a CBI probe.
“It is unfortunate that wrestlers who have brought laurels to the country are protesting for justice. Women wrestlers have alleged sexual harassment by the WFI chief, but the government, which has been promoting ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, is defending him,” Yadav said while addressing media at the party’s Gurgaon office.
Blaming the Centre for favouring wrongdoers, he said Singh should be removed from his post with immediate effect and a CBI probe should be ordered to bring the culprits to book. Congress is in support of the wrestlers and will stand with them till they get justice, he added.
Citing lack of development, rising crime against women and traffic congestion as major problems in the city, Yadav said the BJP-led Haryana government has made the lives of people in Gurgaon difficult. “Crimes against women are rising day by day. In the last eight years, neither was the Civil Hospital building completed, nor the metro network expanded,” he said.
“In the next civic polls in Gurgaon, Congress will field candidates on the party symbol. After the elections, the party will initiate development work that has been pending in the city for the past few years,” the ex-minister said.
He also said the state government has curtailed the power of sarpanches by introducing e-tendering, due to which they have been forced to stage protests against the government.
Earlier, former Haryana Wrestling Association chief and Congress MP Deepender Hooda had also demanded a CBI probe monitored by the Supreme Court and said he is supporting the cause of wrestlers.
