Boys basketball roundup: Port Huron Northern passes another test, improves to 10-0

Here are some notable results from Friday's boys basketball games in the Blue Water Area.

Port Huron 59, Marine City 33

Dwynell Benjamin amassed 13 points, seven rebounds and six blocks for the Big Reds, who improved to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the MAC Silver. Conner Rosenau added 11 points, six assists and five steals while Garrett James had nine points.

Marine City fell to 0-11 overall and 0-5 in conference play. Josh VandeVyver finished led the way with nine points and Jonny Hand totaled seven.

Both teams are back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The Big Reds will travel to Marysville while the Mariners will visit Madison Heights Madison.

Port Huron Northern 63, Grosse Pointe North 54

The Huskies flexed their muscles and improved to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the MAC White. Alex Jamison dropped a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Northern. He was one of four Huskies to score in double figures.

Cam Harju totaled 16 points and nine boards while Tyler Jamison posted a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Amir Morelan chipped in 13 points.

The Huskies will resume a four-game road trip when they visit Warren Mott at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Armada 63, Yale 42

That's four straight victories for the Tigers, who improved to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in BWAC play. Andrew Sniesak led the way with 14 points while Camden Khon and Parker Westfall each had seven.

As for the Bulldogs, they fell to 8-3 overall and 2-3 in the BWAC. Jackson Kohler scored 10 points while Ryan Monarch and Connor Jakubiak each had seven.

Both teams return to the floor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Armada will travel to Richmond and Yale will welcome Almont.

Capac 55, Memphis 35

Cody Rembowski was dominant as usual with a 17-point, 15-rebound performance for the Yellowjackets. But it wasn't enough, as Memphis fell to 2-9. Chase O'Connor added five points, three boards and two steals.

The Chiefs improved to 5-8 and had three players score in double figures. Carlos Uribe-Arce and Nolan Maday each had 12 points for Capac while Wyatt Hurley chipped in 11.

Up next for the Chiefs is a home game against Kimball Landmark Academy at 7 p.m. on Monday. As for the Yellowjackets, they'll visit Harbor Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Kingston 59, Peck 45

The Pirates had their five-game winning streak snapped by a conference rival. Dalton Sempf scored a team-high 18 points Peck, which fell to 7-3. Cal Heiden followed with 10 points.

Up next for the Pirates is road game against Dryden at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Almont 63, Algonac 59 (Thursday)

Clay Roszczewski finished with a team-high 25 points for the Raiders, who improved to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the BWAC. Marko Radisavljevic contributed 13 points.

The Muskrats fell to 2-7 overall and 0-5 in conference play. They were led by a game-high 32 points from Alex Schweiger. Caleb Thomas added 14 points.

Both teams return the floor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Almont will head to Yale while Algonac will visit Imlay City.
