KOLKATA: The mercury dropped three degrees to 13.3°C on Friday even as the Met office predicted a rise in mercury from Saturday. The northwesterly wind will be cut off by western disturbances in northwest India and Afghanistan, leading to a gradual climb in temperature, with the minimum temperature touching 18°C by Wednesday, said the Met office.
"The chill is set to be missed for at least one week. A western disturbance in northwest India and a cyclonic circulation in Rajasthan, have cut off the chilly northwesterly. That apart, a high-pressure zone above Bay of Bengal has been supplying moisture to the region, adding to the warmth. We will see a gradual rise in mercury and the minimum temperature will keep spiralling up over the next five days," said Regional Meteorological Centre director GK Das.
The chill, however, could return after the western disturbances recede.
