3 throw chilli powder on exchange agent, rob him of Rs 8 lakh in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: Three people were arrested on Friday for allegedly snatching Rs 8 lakh from a currency exchange agent who had met them to exchange US dollars for Indian rupees.
“On January 17, Mohammad Asif filed a complaint in which he stated that he got a call from a man who wanted to exchange his dollars for trupees. He arranged Rs 8 lakh and went to Sector 39 to meet the man. When he reached the spot, the man asked him to sit inside a car for exchanging the cash. Besides him, two more people were in the the car who drove them to Sector 29. On the way, one of the accused put chilli powder in the victim's eyes and snatched his cash bag and dumped him,” said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan.
Based on the complaint, the Sector 39 police station booked the three accused for abduction and robbery. Thereafter, the crime branch of Sector 39 launched an investigation under inspector Pankaj and after four days managed to arrest the three accused — Anil (23), Ramjiyavan alias Ram (20) and Jugnu (23) — from Sector 52 and Molahera village. During questioning, the main accused Ram told police that he works in a guest house and foreigners used to exchange dollars for rupees.
From them, he took the phone number of a currency exchange agent and called him on the pretext of exchanging dollars for rupees.
“We have seized the carand recovered Rs 20,000 from the accused. They will be taken on police remand,” added Sangwan.
