Newborn abandoned near crematorium, father booked
Vadodara: A newborn baby was found abandoned by the roadside near the Khaswadi crematorium on Thursday morning.
Some passers-by, who heard the wailing of the infant kept behind a rickety car, called up the police and the SHE team arrived at the spot within minutes. Luckily, the stray dogs did not attack the baby till then.
“We took the baby to the hospital for treatment and then started our search for the person who had abandoned it. Investigations revealed that a 22-year-old man had left the baby by the roadside. We have booked an offence and will soon arrest the accused,” said C R Jadhav, Karelibaug police inspector.
According to the police, 22-year-old Irfan (name changed) is engaged to a neighbourhood girl and are set to get married within a few days. But he impregnated her last year. “The accused claimed that they hid her pregnancy from their families. On Thursday morning, the girl called him and informed that she in labour pain,” Jadhav added.
Irfan told cops that while he was taking her to the SSG Hospital in an auto, she delivered the baby on the way. He then took the baby and his fiancé to the hospital. After admitting her, he carried the baby and abandoned it near the Khaswadi crematorium.
The police tracked down Irfan who admitted of abandoning the baby out of fear.
“We will conduct a DNA test of the baby and then hand it over to the family,” Jadhav said.
