Bhubaneswar: A special vigilance court in Baripada on Thursday sentenced a sub-inspector Sachidananda Kisan to five years of imprisonment and fined him Rs 15,000 on charges of demanding bribe during duty hours.
Kisan, an SI appointed with Baripada Town police station was booked for demanding bribe to settle a family dispute case. He was suspended on February 5, 2020.
Kisan had threatened the opposite party of charging a false case of dowry if they failed to pay the bribe. In the case, the court heard the parties and announced the verdict on Thursday. tnn
