4 dead after car plunges into pond in Hapur district

MEERUT: Four people, including the driver, were killed after the car they were travelling in, plunged into a pond in UP's Hapur district during the early hours of Thursday after the driver allegedly lost control over the steering.
The incident took place near Kamaruddinpur village along Samana road under Kapurpur police station area.
The victims, residents of Hapur, were returning from Ghaziabad where they used to work as parking contractors when the incident occurred, said police.
Those dead have been identified as Rahul Kumar, Arun Kumar, Mohd Harun and Mohd Shaukin - all in their late twenties.
Superintendent of police (SP), Hapur, Abhishek Verma said, "Prima facie, the car with four people plunged into a pond after it apparently went out of control. All four died on the spot. Who among the four was driving the car is not clear yet. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Their family members have been informed. Probe is on."
