PATNA: Additional Director General (ADG) of economic offences unit, Nayyar Hasnain Khan, on Thursday said amongst the various cybercrime, duping one through online transaction or ATM card was a common one in the state. He said the criminals use fake SIM cards issued in someone else's name and hence, it becomes difficult to trace and nab them.
While talking to TOI over the phone, Khan said, to curb these cybercrimes, instructions have been issued to the senior cops in all the districts and asked to see that all the rules set up by telecom regulatory authority of India are followed while issuing the SIM cards. Vendors were told to ensure that they give SIM cards on authentic documents only, or face the punishment.
Khan added that they had received some complaints from the telecom companies about the problems they were facing in getting the FIR registered in local thanas regarding fake SIM and have asked the cops to see such complaints are registered without delay. While cautioning people of the cybercrimes, Khan said in case they get any call or message which they feel is suspicious, then they should report to the local thana.
He also shared the list of districts in Bihar considered as the hot spot of cybercrime and they include Patna, Nawada, Nalanda, Gaya, Sheikhpura and Jamui. As per the information shared by the EOU, nearly 170 cases had been registered in 2022 in different police stations against illegal SIM cards.
