Ludhiana: A day after miscreants struck at a footwear store in Field Ganj area and decamped with cash, Ludhiana police arrested three accused, including an employee of the store, in the case. Division number two police has recovered Rs 7.74 lakh from the trio, identified as Rajinder Kumar Raja, Rahul Ghora (both from Prem Nagar) and Ajay Cheenu of Islamganj who worked in the store for long.
Ludhiana police commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu said as the police started a probe into the matter, the involvement of Ajay came to the fore.
Police officials said police team arrested Ajay. On questioning, he confessed to the crime. They added that Ajay involved his two friends and carried out the theft.
Police have seized tools such as hammer, screw driver and iron rods which were used by the accused to break the cash safe.
Cops said the accused do not have any criminal past. They added that Ajay worked at the store for around 10 years, but his employer had not got his police verification done.
The police commissioner appealed to all the shopkeepers and house owners to get police verification of the staff and domestic help done.
