BJP unable to digest Cong poll promises: KPCC gen secy Gatty
Mangaluru: KPCC general secretary Mamatha Gatty claimed that the BJP is not able to digest the poll promises of the Congress.
“The BJP is engaged in a malicious campaign against Congress’ promises of Rs 2,000 per month to women head of family in Karnataka, only because they are not able to digest it. Women in the state have welcomed the decisions, including the Rs 2,000 per month to the woman head of family, as well as the free supply of 200 units of power,” Gatty told reporters here on Thursday.
She sought to know why the BJP is opposing schemes that are beneficial to women. “It was the government led by Siddaramaiah, that increased the reservation for women in the panchayati raj system, from 33% to 50%. Further, several schemes aimed at the welfare of women were implemented by the Congress. However, no schemes for the welfare of women have been implemented after the BJP came to power in the state,” she said.
“The number of atrocities against women increased by four times, after BJP came to power. Not a single rupee reached the state from the Centre, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme,” she alleged.
“KPCC president DK Shivakumar has promised a woman candidate in each constituency in the next assembly election,” she said adding, “I will also contest if the party allows me.”
