To ease traffic, schools asked to follow staggered timings
Prayagraj: In a bid to check traffic chaos and congestion on city streets leading to schools, commissioner of police Ramit Sharma on Wednesday held a meeting with management and principals of 28 schools and appealed them to adopt staggered timings.
“We have asked school principals and management to go for staggered time for schools opening (also within junior and section sections of a same school) and there should be at least 30 minutes difference in the opening of two schools. Majority of schools have agreed to change their school opening timings,” said Sharma. Commissioner said police have also made clusters of schools (as many of them are located within short distances) where there would be 30 minutes difference between opening and closing of schools.
“As all schools were opening at same time (10 am), it is resulting in road jams. As majority of government offices, courts and other offices also open at 10 am across the city, there has been an additional volume of traffic being witnessed during morning hours,” he said adding that with the schools now agreeing to change their timing, it would offer a major respite to commuters.
The commissioner said, once the Mauni Amavasya snan was over on Saturday, station house officers concerned would be visiting schools falling under their jurisdiction and hold meetings with school managements to draw out more effective plans for smooth transportation and commuting.
Commissioner has also appealed prominent school managements to offer their play grounds for parking of vehicles so that there is no traffic congestion outside schools during opening and closing hours.
