Synopsis

"(DCW chief) Swati Maliwal, dragged by car for 10-15 meters, at around 3.11 am opp AIIMS gate 2, after her hand got stuck in car's window as driver, Harish Chandra, suddenly pulled up glass window while she was reprimanding him as he asked her to sit in his car," ANI quoted Delhi Police.

In a shocking incident, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal was reportedly molested and "dragged by a car" for several meters opposite AIIMS in Delhi in the early hours of this morning. As per reports, the incident happened at around 3:11 am opposite AIIMS gate 2, when her hand got stuck in the car's window during a spat with the ‘drunk’ driver.

"Late last night, I was inspecting the situation of women's security in Delhi. A driver of a car molested me in a drunken state and when I caught hold of him, he locked my hand in the mirror of the car and dragged me. If the Chairperson of the Women's Commission is not safe in Delhi, then imagine the situation," Swati Maliwal tweeted.

Delhi police said, as per Maliwal, she was standing on a footpath with her team outside the AIIMS at around 2.45 am when the arrested person, hailing from Sangam Vihar, approached her.

The DCW chief in her complaint to police alleged that the man who was driving a white-coloured car stopped his car near where she was standing and "made indecent gestures" at her. He then beckoned her to sit inside his vehicle, claimed Maliwal. When the DCW chief reprimanded him, the man allegedly went away but returned a short while and again repeated his actions, police said.

"When she refused again and went near the driver's side window to reprimand him the man rolled up the car's glass window and her hand got stuck and she got dragged for about 10-15 metres," Delhi Police said.

The 47-year-old accused has been reportedly detained by the Delhi Police. He was reportedly in an intoxicated state at the time of the incident. FIR was also registered in the case, said police.

This comes after a 20-year-old woman died after allegedly being dragged in the Kanjhawala area of Delhi for several kilometres.
