Headphones on while crossing track, engg student run over by train
Nagpur: A 19-year-old first year engineering student, Arti Gurav, was run over by train at Dongargaon railway crossing on Wednesday. The victim was using her cellphone with the headphones on when the accident took place.
It’s learnt, onlookers had raised an alarm to alert Arti as the train was fast approaching her. But due to her headphones, Arti was unable to hear them and was dragged by the train for around 50 feet.
Arti, a native of Bhandara, used to stay with her relatives at Beldar Sukli in Hingna taluka. She had reached Gumgaon railway station by bus and was heading to college.
Police have ruled out suicide as of now. “She was crossing the railway track while looking at the mobile phone. She was clueless about the oncoming train,” said senior inspector Vishal Kale of Hingna police station where accidental death has been registered.
