Coimbatore: Three people, one of them a minor boy, were arrested for beating a police head constable at Valparai on Tuesday.
Two of the accused have been identified as Dinesh Kumar, 28, of Kakkan Colony, and Karthick, 19, of Anna Nagar.
A police source said the incident occurred during the Mariamman temple festival at ETR estate in Mudis police station limits on Tuesday night. Head constable
Suresh Kumar was deployed there for security duty.
“He saw a few youths quarrelling among themselves amidst the festival crowd. As he reached the spot, a few of them ran away. He caught hold of the remaining three. When he started questioning them, they suddenly attacked him and tried to escape,” the source said.
Suresh Kumar, however, got hold of them with the help of villagers and took them to the police station. A case was subsequently registered against the trio.
