COIMBATORE: An employee of a petrol bunk in Coimbatore’s Chinniyampalayam went absconding with the proprietor’s car and Rs 14.5 lakh in cash on Wednesday.
Proprietor Muthukumarasamy gave Rs 14.5 lakh and the car key to Vijayakumar, who had been working for him for the past few years, to deposit the amount in a bank. It was the collection money from the petrol bunk.
He asked Vijayakumar to call him once he reached the bank, but he did not call him. When Muthukumarasamy called him, his phone was switched off.
He immediately rushed to the bank branch, but he was told that the amount was not credited in his account. He went to Vijayakumar’s house located nearby and found that the house was locked. Neighbours told him that Vijayakumar had vacated the house a few days ago.
The car is worth Rs 5.5 lakh.
Based on a complaint, the Singanallur police registered a case against Vijayakumar under sections 408 (criminal breach of trust by servant or clerk) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC. Inspector V Ganesh Kumar conducted an inquiry.
