Ludhiana: Irked over the delay in the process of land acquisition for direct access to the ancestral house of martyr Sukhdev Thapar, All India Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust president Ashok Thapar has written a letter to CM Bhagwant Mann and other officials for getting this work completed before May 15. They have even warned to stage protest against the government for this delay.
Ashok Thapar has mentioned in the letter that only 5 properties were coming in way of direct access to the ancestral house of the martyr and out of these, only one has demanded payment while others had refused any compensation. However, due to the delay, some more people have started demanding compensation without any proof of ownership.
“Ex-councillor Sunil Mehra has already given consent for his property, but now two people are raising their rights over the same property,” the letter stated.
Thapar claimed that MC had completed the formalities, but the district administration is delaying things reasons best known to them. “If taken seriously, then it will take hardly one month to complete all formalities. Last year, on January 26, cabinet minister Harjot Bains had visited the ancestral house of the martyr and claimed that work will be completed in two months,” he added.
Moreover, several improtant dates, like January 26, March 31 and May 15 are approaching, so officials should be told to act and complete pending work as soon as possible, he said.
Thapar added, “We have been fighting for this direct access to the martyr’ house not for our sake but for the young generations. As of now, very few visitors come here as they have to pass through congested and narrow lanes.”
We expect the government to finish the process by May 15, so that we can celebrate the birth anniversary of the martyr here, he said.
